so as many know....ive been df'd goin on 19 years already.

i drive pops to meetings, and drop him off on saturdays for fs.. well yesterday, the elders ask to speak to me, and tell me that if i plan on returning to jehovah, i had better shave my beard off..

Good for you, helping your dad.
I can see any adult child driving Mom and Dad wherever they need to go, even church. The loving child doesn't have to attend or believe. Ray Franz, in IN SEARCH OF CHRISTIAN FREEDOM, praised a disfellowshipped woman for regularly driving an elderly relative (aunt, I believe) to meetings.
BTW, while still attending the KH, I regularly answered, encouraged by one elder in particular. This, despite hair down my back and a beard. Guess there's more to all this outward appearance thing than meets the eye. Baptized 50 years . . .

I've been depressed lately.

my husband and i went to visit his family for the holidays.

not everyone showed for the visit ,the weather was lousy, and it just generally sucked.

now we're back to the same old routine with work and life and we're both depressed and alone.

Thank you for explaining, BYCNL.
It takes a long time to let go, and things rarely turn out as we would hope. My entire family followed me in almost 50 years ago. Some, like me, have left, but others remain in. I feel responsibility for my influence. Of course, making a so-called dedication to God is a serious thing, and I've learned (finally) when to keep quiet.
Give yourselves time. Change is difficult. StoneWall's excellent suggestions have already been implemented by many of us. We really are getting on with our lives and are happier than ever.

I'm sorry, BYCNL, for your feelings of depression. It's worse this time of year, too, as you noted. Your husband's family are or aren't JWs? I wasn't sure because you visited them for the "Holidays."
Staying around here on the forum should help cheer you up -- you'll be getting some more responses soon, I'm sure.

This link was sent to me by an ex-JW family member who suffered horribly from parental corporal punishment. The police and CPS finally got involved.
And, to think, for years we misinformed family members were told the child was rebellious and wanted no part of the Truth.

Our beloved child wanted out of the cult when an early teen.
Suicidal tendencies and fierce rebellion against "The Truth" woke us up, and we said we love you and don't want you to hurt yourself. No longer forced to be a JW (never baptized), our kid turned into the sweetest, most non-judgmental, and obedient youngster on the block. Never mind what the elders thought of Mom's and Dad's position on saving their child.
Thirty years later, our "youngster" is a good and generous person. We couldn't be prouder.
